It was a pleasure to sit down with BusinessDesk for a Sharesies shared lunch. We talked in detail about the tourism recovery, with a strong focus on understanding how demand is returning, but that labour challenges remain a key threat to the recovery. We also focused on why it’s unhelpful to fixate on recovering to pre-Covid levels. I highlighted that there are opportunities to unlock value by playing the long game and using tourism as a way of influencing visitors’ future consumption of New Zealand goods and services once they return home.
